Akemi Matsuzaki (1954-) debuted very young and became associated with elegant shōjo drawing, beautiful characters and increasingly dark or unsettling themes. During the 1980s she contributed regularly to magazines including ALLAN, where We Are the Young Detectives became one of the representative works of her aesthetic, slightly decadent style. Later she moved more toward horror manga, including work for magazines such as Halloween.
