Fujimaru Of The Wind: The Childhood Of A Ninja - Shonen Ninja Kaze No Fujimaru

One of the best known manga by Fumio Hisamatsu, the #1 assistant of Osamu Tezuka

Shōnen Ninja Kaze no Fujimaru is a 1960s ninja adventure manga drawn by Fumio Hisamatsu  and based on a story by Sanpei Shirato. First serialized in Bokura magazine during the mid-1960s, it quickly became a recognizable title for young readers of the period.

The story follows Fujimaru, a boy who is separated from his mother as a baby when he is carried off by an eagle. Rescued by the Fūma clan, a group of ninjas led by the ruthless Jūhōsai, he is raised and trained in their ways, mastering wind-based ninjutsu that becomes his trademark skill.

The series is significant both as manga and anime.
Fumio Hisamatsu' version offered a manga adventure accessible to young readers, while the anime adaptation Shōnen Ninja Kaze no Fujimaru (1964–1965, 65 episodes) helped to popularize the ninja genre among children at a time when ninja stories were spreading widely across popular culture.

Beyond its fast-paced battles, the story wove in moral dilemmas and emotional depth, particularly around the dangerous scroll that many factions seek to possess, as well as Fujimaru’ personal longing for his lost mother.
This balance of action, conflict, and human feeling gave the series a resonance that distinguished it from being merely a sequence of fight scenes, making it a formative work in the evolution of ninja narratives.
