Super Mario-kun is a Japanese manga based on the Nintendo Mario series.
This drawing was published in Shogaku Ichinensei and/or Shogaku Niensei, both publications by Shogakukan!
Shogaku Ichinensei (First Grader) is a magazine aimed at first-grade elementary school students & Shogaku Ninensei (Second Graders) is a magazine aimed at second graders
Album publication in Hiroshi Takase's Color Special Edition "Super Mario-kun" (4 albums published between 1993 & 1996)

Super Mario-Kun by Hiroshi Takase was first published in two elementary school magazines and in album by Shogakukan. His Mario characters (and others) also appeared in Famimaga, the Nintendo 'Family Computer' magazine.
Takase's Mario is not that different from the one drawn by Yukio Sawada.
Yukio Sawada's Mario was focused on third & fourth graders

Mario is a character who appears in a series of computer games developed and published by Nintendo
The "Super Mario-kun" Color Special Edition is not to be confused with the Super Mario-kun manga also written by Hiroshi Takase and also published by Shogakukan. These were released between 2004 and 2006 under the Pikkapika Comics label and show a much more evolved Mario.
The Mario-kun from 1993 is the original Mario. The very first drawings didn't feature an M on Mario's hat and Bowser only had one horn :-) | Someone had to point this out to Hiroshi Takase so he could change his drawings
