Miyako Ōji (written 都おうじ or alternatively 都おおじ) was a Japanese mangaka active in the late 1940s and early 1950s, during the peak of the akahon boom.

He mainly published through Enomoto Hōreikan, a publisher that catered to young boys looking for cheap excitement and heroic adventures in a compact format.

Among his known works are ‘Skyscraper Acrobatics’ (摩天楼の離れ技 ), a judo-themed story set against an urban backdrop, ‘Deadly Iron Fist’ (必殺の鉄拳 ) and ‘Boss from Hell’ (地獄の顔役), a gritty tale rooted in gangland.

All these titles count as examples of the fast-paced, action-driven akahon manga that were soooooo very popular in the postwar years.

Miyako Ōji was one of many working under pressure of speed over quality, producing short stories for a flat fee in a market that valued quick thrills more than refined art.

In this industry where talent was often secondary, his work still stood out for its energy, even if it didn’t match the craftsmanship of his peers such as Yanosuke Nakai or Haruo Nakano
