THE SEIJI (ザ・セイジ, born 1961) is a Japanese manga artist and painter known for his subtle, sensual, and emotionally rich storytelling. He studied oil painting at the Kyoto City University of Arts, where he also completed a graduate program. After graduating, he worked as a high school art teacher while quietly pursuing his creative interests.
He debuted in 1988 under the pen name Aozora Midori, with the short story "Mermaid Lake". Around the age of 30, he co-founded Studio Pig, a freelance group producing manga, illustrations, and adult game visuals. Eventually, he adopted the name THE SEIJI and became known for his adult manga, which stood out for their soft, almost romantic tone.
His works often centered on women and everyday erotic situations, published in magazines like Young Comic and Young Champion. Titles such as The Office Lady Encyclopedia and The Married Woman Encyclopedia combined erotic themes with a calm and atmospheric style that appealed to a wide audience.
Later in his career, THE SEIJI gradually returned to painting, creating oil works that reflect the same quiet sensitivity found in his manga. His artistic path, from painting to manga and back again, has always been shaped by a gentle and thoughtful view of the erotic, the emotional, and the everyday.
