For nearly three decades, Isao Narusawa produced numerous short manga and gekiga, gaining recognition with series such as Brother & Sister Detectives. While his stories sometimes lacked depth (especially when working solo), his artwork had a very distinctive quality and expressive style.

Narusawa is roughly the same age as the renowned mangaka Toshio Maeda, who acted as a mentor to him. Maeda pushed Narusawa to spice up his manga, but while Maeda explored the more bold such as tentacle horror, Narusawa preferred a more classy and stylish approach.

Narusawa was primarily an artist rather than a writer, so his solo stories often missed backbone unless created in collaboration with a dedicated writer. His work explored urban themes like yakuza and gangs - published mainly in Bessatsu Weekly Manga TIMES during the 1980s.
