Blue Jet (ブルージェット) is an adventure manga by Taku Horie, originally serialized in Omoshiro Book (July 1959) and subsequently in Shōnen Book (until March 1962).
The series follows Kenji Okita, who assumes the identity of the masked adventurer Blue Jet.
His adventures take him across the world, confronting criminal organisations, mysterious enemies and dangerous conspiracies involving hidden treasures and secret military technology. Blending action, espionage and imaginative adventure, Blue Jet is a characteristic example of Japanese boys' manga from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The series belongs to one of the most successful periods of Horie's career, following the popularity of Yaguruma Kennosuke and Tenma Tenpei. Known for his imaginative storytelling and energetic action scenes, Horie was one of the most prominent artists of Japanese shonen adventure manga.
This original colour illustration was published as the cover of a furoku and as the cover of Blue Jet volume 4 (Apple Box) and is a fine example of Horie's dynamic compositions and colourful adventure artwork.
