Akari, first published in Japan in 2022 (Hero's Inc.), is one of Marco Kohinata's major works. The manga was published in France by Le Lézard Noir in December 2025 and won the ACBD Prix Asie de la Critique 2026 in July 2026.

Akari tells the story of Fumiyo Kagari, a stained-glass craftsman deeply affected by the death of his wife, and his granddaughter Akari. Through their shared time in the workshop and the art of stained glass, the two gradually rebuild their relationship.

The story has a particularly personal dimension for Kohinata, who created Akari as a tribute to her own grandfather, himself a stained-glass craftsman.

Kohinata's delicate and highly detailed artwork gives particular attention to light, shadow and subtle shades of grey, as well as to the gestures and expressions of her characters.
