A postwar shōnen mangaka born in Osaka, Tanaka lived and worked for years in Tokiwa-sō, the same apartment building that housed Osamu Tezuka and other early manga pioneers. Active from the late 1940s into the 1970s, he contributed to the shaping of shōnen manga through his own approach on imaginative adventure and storytelling. Nice-kun, shown here, reflects this typical approach to storytelling
